The Golden Rule is good. I am not trying to knock it. I did grow up trying to follow it. But, the Platinum Rule is even better, especially when you have a relationship with the person with whom you are interacting. It’s a completely different focus. Here are the differences:
GOLDEN RULE- Treat others as you would like to be treated.
PLATINUM RULE- Treat others as they would like to be treated.
I like to think about the British-born saying “Keep Calm and Carry On” when thinking about change. This saying began as a propaganda poster that the British government produced in 1939 during the beginning of the Second World War. It was intended to raise the morale of the British public at a very difficult time in history (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keep_Calm_and_Carry_On). It seems fitting to think about this motto when we are dealing with any sort of change in our personal or professional lives.
